Technical Requirements

​

·      Download free Zoom video conferencing software

 

·       Internet broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE) with at least 1.2 Mbps (down) for HD video/screen-sharing

·       Speakers and a microphone – built-in or USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth

 

·       HD webcam - built-in or USB plug-in or video capture card

·       Computer Dual Core 2Ghz or Higher (i3/i5/i7 or AMD equivalent) with at least 4Gb RAM

Translate

Translators are CITVN Co-op members who subtitle CITVN Talks, and enable the inspiring ideas in them to crisscross languages and borders. 

Workflow

Subtitles go through the following steps before publication:

1. Transcription

CITVN provides an original transcript in English. 

2. Translation

Subtitles are translated from the original language into the target language, using the simple Amara online platform.

3. Captioning

Subtitles are aligned with video.

4. Review and Approval

Subtitles are reviewed by an experienced Language Coordinator (a college professor or professional linguist). Before publication, reviewed translations are approved by a CITVN staff member.

Language Coordinators

Language Coordinators are skilled, experienced language teachers who help develop their language communities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Elevate translation quality

  • Support collaboration

  • Mentor new co-op members

  • Maintain language style guides

  • Perform the final proofread of subtitles (approval step)

  • Advise on linguistic questions and platform improvements

Crediting

CITVN places tremendous priority on crediting co-op members for their contributions. Members with published subtitles will have:

  • Their profile appear in our translator directory

  • A special CITVN profile page, listing their published work

Workshops

Co-op members receive free training in Zoom webconference meetings:

1. Watson Speech-to-Text

The IBM Watson Speech to Text service uses speech recognition capabilities to convert Arabic, English, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, and Mandarin speech into text.. 

2. Amara Subtitling Platform

This technology makes it easy for anyone to caption and subtitle video, create your own teams of volunteers or paid translators; and/or purchase subtitles from our CITVN co-op member linguists.

3. Youtube Creator Academy

Whether you're just starting out or want to take your channel to the next level, the Creator Academy can help with free online education about YouTube. Let's learn together.  

Patronage Refund

CITVN sells underwriter banner advertising to universities and corporations. Co-op members share in the profits. 

  • Captioners can earn $0.40-$0.75 for each minute of video they caption. 

  • A special CITVN profile page, listing your published work

  • Co-op patronage refund (profit sharing) 

  • You must have a verified Language Coordinator to proof and approve..
